Hosted by Donna Brookbanks and Shoshana McCallum, Erotica by the Fire is RNZ's new comedy podcast with a saucy spin. Featuring some of the most familiar faces on New Zealand’s comedy circuit and screens, each episode sees a guest read their freshly penned, original erotic fiction, followed by a revealing conversation about what makes them tick and what makes for a good time. About the hosts

Shoshana McCallum

International Emmy winner, Shoshana McCallum is a writer, actress and producer in Auckland, New Zealand. Television writing credits include Step-Dave (for which she won the 2016 SWANZ Best TV Comedy Script) West Side, Head High, Stand Up Girl, My Life is Murder and Creamerie. Her feature film script, Daisy Chain won the 2017 SWANZ Award for Best Unproduced Feature Film.

In 2020, she co-created the critically acclaimed Emmy award-winning INSiDE with Dan Musgrove and Peter Salmon. Shoshana was nominated for both Best Comedy script (Creamerie) and Best Drama script (INSiDE) at the 2021 NZTV Awards. She was nominated and won the Fulcrum Media’s Woman to Watch Award at New Zealand’s WIFT Awards 2022. 

Her theatre credits include the much loved, sell out shows; Looking At Stuff inClouds, Leopard, Merely Beloved, and Erotica By The Fire.

Recently Shoshana was showrunner and Head Writer for multi award winning sexy comedy-drama, Madam for TV3, and is currently Head Writer and Executive Producer for a new spooky comedy series, Good Bones for Sky Originals.  



Donna Brookbanks

Donna Brookbanks is an actor, comedian, improviser, voice artist and writer. She is a graduate of The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York. She has also trained in improv with The Upright Citizens Brigade in both New York and LA. She has been a Billy T nominee twice with the NZ International Comedy Festival and has written 4 solo comedy shows.

Her most recent comedy play, Green Fingered, is currently touring New Zealand. Donna’s appeared on stages across the world, such as The Sydney Comedy Store and as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Donna’s television credits include 7 Days, Madam, Mean Mums, Raised by Refugees, Creamerie, and Funny Girls and she has written for and appeared on Shortland Street, Jono and Ben and The Project. Donna has provided her voice for popular TVNZ cartoons Night Eyes and Tu Meke Space.

Donna and Shoshana McCallum co-founded Playfight Productions in 2011, as a way to bring the stories they wanted to see on stage to Auckland theatre audiences. Their productions include the original works, Looking at Stuff in Clouds and Leopard. Donna is the co-founder of cult hit Auckland improv show, Snort, which ran for 10 years at the Basement Theatre in Auckland. She is also a regular guest on RNZ’s The Week That Was, as part of Nine to Noon with Kathryn Ryan.
